The Osram 64225 ESA/FHD is a single-ended, low-voltage tungsten halogen capsule lamp engineered for high-precision microscopy, ophthalmic instruments, projectors, and medical diagnostic equipment. With a perfect CRI of 100, a 3,200K color temperature, and a universal burn position, it delivers consistent, true-to-life illumination in any mounting orientation — a key advantage over many specialty lamps in this class. Dimmable and mercury-free, it is a standard replacement across a wide range of professional scientific and AV equipment.

Which Variant Is Right for You — 64225 vs 64223 HLX

Osram offers two versions of this 6V 10W ESA lamp with different life/output trade-offs:

  • 64225 ESA/FHD (this lamp): 200 lumens — 100-hour rated life — maximum brightness, ideal for demanding imaging and projection applications.
  • 64223 HLX (NAED 54245): 150 lumens — 200-hour rated life — lower output in exchange for double the lifespan, suited for applications where frequent bulb changes are inconvenient or costly.

Always confirm the ANSI or NAED code on your existing lamp or in your equipment manual before ordering.

About Xenophot HLX Versions

Standard halogen capsule lamps use krypton as the filling gas. Osram's Xenophot (HLX) versions substitute xenon, which offers superior thermal conductivity and allows the filament to operate more efficiently — producing up to 10% more lumens per watt at the same electrical input. Xenophot lamps are identified in Osram's catalog by the prefix HLX. Both the standard and HLX versions share the same physical dimensions and base, making them direct mechanical replacements for each other.

Compatible Applications

  • Microscopy Illuminators (including Zeiss Standard 14/16/18/Stemi, American Optical)
  • Ophthalmic Instruments & Slit Lamps
  • Medical Diagnostic Equipment
  • Dental Examination Lighting
  • 35mm Slide & Film Projectors
  • Microfilm & Overhead Projectors
  • Studio & Video Equipment

Important Safety & Installation Notes

  • UV Radiation: This lamp emits ultraviolet radiation and operates at high internal pressure. Read all warnings accompanying the product before use. Do not look directly at the operating lamp — intense UV and visible output can cause serious eye injury.
  • Enclosed Fixtures Only: Must be used in approved, fully enclosed halogen fixtures only. Never use in open or unshielded housings. The enclosure also provides a safety barrier in the event of lamp rupture due to high internal pressure.
  • No Bare Hands: Never touch the quartz envelope with bare skin. Oils from your fingers create hot spots that cause premature failure or lamp burst. Use clean gloves or a lint-free cloth during installation.
  • Precision LCL Matters: The 19.5 mm Light Center Length positions the filament at the exact focal point of the instrument's optical system. Using a lamp with a different LCL will degrade image quality and illumination uniformity.
  • Do Not Exceed Rated Voltage: Operating above 6V will significantly shorten lamp life. Always verify your equipment's transformer or power supply output before installation.
  • Extreme Heat Warning: This lamp runs at very high temperatures. Never touch when lit or recently switched off. Keep away from combustibles including paper, plastics, and cloth.
  • Fragile: Quartz halogen lamps are sensitive to vibration and impact. Do not drop, shake, or bend. Inspect for cracks before installation and never install a damaged lamp.
