Osram 64663 HLX EVD 400W 36V G6.35 Bi-Pin T6 Xenophot Halogen Lamp — NAED 54259 — Projectors, Medical & Studio

The Osram 64663 HLX is a single-ended, low-voltage Xenophot tungsten halogen T6 capsule lamp engineered for overhead projectors, microfilm readers, medical fiber optic illuminators, and professional studio lighting. Its xenon gas fill delivers up to 10% greater luminous efficiency over standard halogen at the same wattage, and Osram's precision filament alignment manufacturing ensures consistent, accurate light positioning — critical in optical and medical applications. With 16,200 initial lumens, a 3,250K color temperature, perfect CRI of 100, and instant-on performance, it is a trusted standard across a wide range of commercial and scientific equipment.

What Makes Xenophot (HLX) Different?

Standard halogen lamps use krypton as the filling gas. Osram's Xenophot lamps substitute xenon, which has superior thermal conductivity and slows the rate of tungsten evaporation from the filament. This allows the filament to run at a higher temperature more efficiently — producing up to 10% more lumens per watt compared to a conventional halogen of the same wattage, with nearly constant luminous flux maintained throughout the rated life. Xenophot lamps are identified by the prefix HLX in Osram's catalog.

Important Safety & Installation Notes

  • Burn Position is Critical: This lamp must be operated vertical base-down to horizontal only (s90). Operating outside this range will cause overheating, premature failure, and may pose a safety risk.
  • Short Rated Life is By Design: The 50-hour lifespan is normal and expected for a 400W high-intensity professional lamp. Stocking spare lamps is strongly recommended for commercial and production environments to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Precision LCL Matters: The 36mm Light Center Length positions the filament at the exact focal point of the projector or instrument's optical system. Using a lamp with a different LCL will degrade image quality and projection performance.
  • No Bare Hands: Never touch the quartz envelope with bare skin. Oils from your fingers create hot spots that lead to premature failure or lamp burst. Use clean gloves or a lint-free cloth during installation.
  • Enclosed Fixtures Only: Must be used exclusively in approved, fully enclosed halogen fixtures. Do not use in open or unshielded housings.
  • Do Not Exceed Rated Voltage: Operating above 36V will significantly shorten lamp life. Verify your equipment's transformer or power supply output before installation.
  • Extreme Heat Warning: At 400W, this lamp operates at very high temperatures. Never touch when lit or recently switched off. Keep well clear of combustibles including paper, plastics, and cloth.
  • Eye Safety: Do not look directly at the operating lamp. Intense visible and UV output can cause serious eye injury.
  • Fragile: Quartz halogen lamps are sensitive to vibration and impact. Do not drop, shake, or bend. Inspect for cracks before installation — never install a damaged lamp.
