With a 0.71 low ballast factor and system wattage of 73W (120V) / 71W (277V), this ballast is specifically optimized for the OCTRON® XPS Xtreme lamp system, delivering 6,710 system lumens at up to 95 lm/W system efficacy while saving up to 20% energy vs. standard 700-series T8/88% BF systems. PROStart technology extends lamp life to 30,000 hours (at 3 hrs/start) and supports up to 100,000 switching cycles for occupancy sensor and building control applications. Product Overview

The Sylvania 51430 is a 3-lamp universal-voltage programmed rapid-start electronic ballast from the Quicktronic® PROStart® PSX Xtreme system, specifically designed to be paired with Sylvania OCTRON® XPS high-performance T8 lamps. The system achieves up to 20% energy savings compared to standard 700-series T8 systems at 88% ballast factor by running the high-lumen XPS lamps at a reduced 0.71 ballast factor — delivering comparable light output from lower system wattage (73W for 3 lamps vs. approximately 89W for a standard 3-lamp 88% BF system).

The PROStart programmed rapid-start technology delivers an optimized cathode preheat cycle before lamp ignition, which dramatically reduces electrode sputtering and extends OCTRON XPS lamp life to 30,000 hours at a 3-hour start cycle. This makes the system particularly well-suited for occupancy sensor installations and building control system (BCS) applications where frequent switching would significantly shorten lamp life on instant-start ballasts. The ballast supports up to 100,000 switching cycles.

Operating on 120–277V universal input eliminates voltage-specific SKU stocking. The >40 KHz operating frequency avoids interference with infrared occupancy sensors and remote controls. The SC (Small Can) enclosure at 1.18″ high fits low-profile troffer and strip fixtures. The ballast is also compatible with FBO32, FBO31, FO25, FBO24, FO17, and FBO16 lamp types, as well as equivalent ANSI-specification lamps from other manufacturers.

Before Ordering – Verify

• Lamp compatibility: This is a low ballast factor (0.71) PROStart ballast optimized for Sylvania OCTRON XPS lamps. It will operate other 32W T8 and compatible lamps (FBO32, FO25, FO17, etc.), but the published system performance data (lumens, wattage, efficacy, lamp life) applies specifically to the XPS lamp pairing. Other lamp types will produce different lumen output and may not achieve the 30,000-hour lamp life.
• 3-lamp configuration: This is the 3-lamp SC model. The family also includes: 51420 (1-lamp TC), 51425 (2-lamp TC), and 51435 (4-lamp SC). Confirm the correct lamp count before ordering.
• Enclosure type: SC (Small Can) at 1.18″ high. The 1-lamp and 2-lamp versions use the TC (Thin Can) enclosure at 1.00″ high. Confirm the fixture cavity depth accommodates the SC profile.
• Universal voltage: 120–277V (±10%). Confirm the building supply voltage falls within this range.
• Wiring: Leads only — no plug connectors provided. Plan wiring connections accordingly.
• Replaces discontinued models: 51230, 51231, 51232, 51233. If your purchasing records reference any of these, this is the current replacement.
• Pallet pack: For large-quantity orders, the pallet pack version is 51431.
