LEDVANCE / Sylvania 75864 LHE2X32T8UNVISLSCB — 2-Lamp T8 Instant Start Electronic Ballast, 120-277V, 0.78 low Ballast Factor

The LEDVANCE LHE2X32T8UNVISLSCB (item number 75864) is a high efficiency instant start electronic ballast that operates up to 2 32W T8 fluorescent lamps on universal 120-277V input. It uses a parallel circuit, so remaining lamps continue to operate if one lamp fails, and carries a 0.78 low ballast factor with system efficacy of 97 lumens per watt. Total harmonic distortion is below 10 percent and power factor is greater than 97 percent. Ballast factor determines how much light the lamps produce relative to their rated output, so it must be matched to the light levels the space requires — confirm ballast factor, lamp count, lamp type, and supply voltage against the fixture before ordering.

Ballast Efficiency Factor (BEF) is ballast factor multiplied by 100 and divided by input power. Performance values are measured at 277V, 60 Hz.

Product Overview

Instant start ballasts apply a high starting voltage to strike the lamp without preheating the cathodes. This produces the lowest input power and highest system efficacy of the common starting methods, which is why instant start is the standard choice where lamps run for long, uninterrupted periods. The tradeoff is cathode wear at each start, so instant start is best suited to spaces that are not switched frequently. In applications with occupancy sensors or frequent switching, a programmed start ballast will deliver longer lamp life.

This ballast uses a parallel lamp circuit. If one lamp fails or is removed, the remaining lamps stay lit rather than the entire fixture going dark, which simplifies maintenance in multi-lamp troffers and strip fixtures. Universal 120-277V input means the same item number can be stocked across buildings on different service voltages, with a tolerance of plus or minus 10 percent of rated input.

Ballast factor is the specification that most often determines which of these item numbers is correct. This unit is rated at 0.78, a low ballast factor, meaning lamp output is approximately 78 percent of the lamp's rated lumens. The matching unit in the opposite ballast factor is item 75861 (LHE2X32T8UNVISNSCB, 0.88 normal ballast factor). Choosing a lower ballast factor reduces input power and light output together; choosing a higher one raises both. Substituting one for the other after a lighting layout has been designed will change the light levels in the space.

Lamp Compatibility

This ballast operates 32W T8 lamps and the following equivalents: FBO32, FBO31, FBO24, FO17, FBO16, FO30/SS, FO30/SS (30W), FBO29/SS (29W), FO28/SS (28W), and FO25/WW (25W), as well as F17, F25, F32, U-bend, and energy saving equivalents. It is also compatible with other manufacturers' equivalent lamp types that meet ANSI specifications.

For F40T8 operation, lamp counts are reduced:

  • 1 lamp on a 2-lamp ballast
  • 2 lamps on a 3-lamp ballast
  • 3 lamps on a 4-lamp ballast

Compatible Applications

  • Commercial and retail fluorescent fixture maintenance
  • Hospitality and institutional facilities
  • New construction fluorescent lighting systems
  • Office troffers, strip fixtures, and wraparounds using 32W T8 lamps
  • Low-profile luminaires requiring a small-case ballast
  • Multi-building portfolios on mixed 120V and 277V service
  • Remote ballast mounting up to 18 ft from the lamps

Before Ordering — Verify

  • Confirm lamp count. This ballast operates up to 2 lamps. Other lamp counts in this family are 75862 / 75865 (3-lamp) and 75863 / 75866 (4-lamp).
  • Confirm ballast factor. This unit is 0.78 (low). The same lamp count in the opposite ballast factor is item 75861 (LHE2X32T8UNVISNSCB, 0.88 normal ballast factor), and the two are not interchangeable without changing light levels.
  • Confirm the lamps are 32W T8 or a listed equivalent. This is a T8 instant start ballast and will not operate T12 or T5 lamps.
  • Confirm starting method. Instant start is not equivalent to programmed start or rapid start. If the fixture is on an occupancy sensor or is switched frequently, programmed start will give longer lamp life.
  • Confirm supply voltage is within 120-277V.
  • If operating F40T8 lamps, confirm the reduced lamp count above — this 2-lamp ballast operates 1 F40T8 lamp.
  • Confirm the enclosure fits the fixture channel. This is an enclosure size 2x case measuring 9.5" L x 1.2" W x 0.9" H (241mm x 31mm x 23mm) with a 8.90" (226mm) mounting length.
  • Confirm ambient conditions. Maximum ambient temperature is 131°F (55°C) and maximum case temperature is 194°F (90°C). Operation below 50°F (10°C) may affect light output or lamp starting.
  • Confirm wiring approach. This ballast is supplied with leads only and no connectors.
  • Confirm pack quantity — this item is packaged 10 per case.

Safety and Installation Guidelines

  • Disconnect power at the breaker before removing the old ballast or making any connections.
  • Installation should be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code and local requirements.
  • Ground the ballast case.
  • Follow the wiring diagram on the ballast label for the lamp count being installed. Wiring for 2-lamp, 3-lamp, and 4-lamp configurations is not the same.
  • When operating fewer lamps than the ballast is rated for, cap any unused blue lead and insulate to 600 volts.
  • For remote mounting, do not exceed 18 ft of lead length using 18 AWG conductors. Longer runs can cause starting problems and are outside the ballast rating.
  • Do not mount in ambients above 131°F (55°C), and ensure the fixture allows the case to stay below its 194°F (90°C) maximum at the Tc point.
  • Verify all lamps in a fixture are the same type and wattage. Mixing lamp types on one ballast can cause premature failure.
  • Fluorescent lamps contain mercury. Handle and dispose of lamps in accordance with federal, state, and local requirements. This ballast contains no PCBs.
