Product Overview

SYLVANIA Octron® Curvalume® 24W 3500K T8 U-Bent Fluorescent Lamp
The Sylvania Octron® Curvalume® (24W) is a commercial-grade, high-performance **U-bent T8 fluorescent lamp** engineered for low-profile square ceiling troffers. Emitting a balanced **3500K Neutral White** light profile, this space-saving lamp utilizes a standard **G13 Medium Bi-Pin base** coupled with a compact **1-inch tube diameter**. Delivering **1925 initial lumens** of brightness with an **82 CRI** color rendering accuracy, it features rare-earth tri-phosphor chemistry that ensures excellent lumen maintenance over an extended operational life of up to **28,000 hours**. Ideal for modular office and commercial architecture, these lamps are **sold in convenient factory cases of 15** to simplify master retrofits and commercial lighting replacements.

Curvalume® Space-Saving Structural Engineering
Sylvania Octron® Curvalume® lamps are designed to provide the high-lumen density of linear fluorescent tubes within tight, square architectural configurations. Constructed with a 1-inch (T8) structural glass outer sleeve, this U-bent lamp fits seamlessly inside standard 2x2 modular troffers. Its high-efficiency tri-phosphor interior layer prevents phosphor degradation, resulting in a **1810 mean lumen rating** at 40% of its lifespan. This ensures clean, uniform light distribution across workspaces without dark ends or color-shifting over the lifecycle of the bulb.
- Extended Lifespan Threshold: Rated for a functional life ranging from 15,000 to 28,000 hours. Total longevity is highly dependent on the choice of operating ballast and switching cycles; longer continuous burns yield maximized operational hours.
- Superior Color Profile: Features a premium 82 CRI rating that accurately renders interior finishes, clothing tones, office details, and textures with clean clarity.
- Striation Prevention Technology: Optimized to work alongside high-frequency ballasts to suppress snaking, pulsing, or swirling patterns inside the curved glass arc channel.
- Compact Form Factor: Fits commercial ceiling grids perfectly with a 16.6-inch maximum overall length (MOL) and standard U-bend leg configuration.

System Ballast Operational Guidelines
- Ballast Requirements: Octron T8 lamps must be run exclusively on electronic high-frequency ballasts (Instant Start, Rapid Start, or Programmed Rapid Start) or magnetic rapid-start ballasts specifically designed to operate T8 lamps at 265 mA.
- Instant Start Circuit Setup: When operating in instant start configurations, ensure ballasts possess factors spanning between 0.71 minimum and 1.20 maximum at nominal input voltage. For instant-start setups, shunted sockets or connecting the two wiring terminals of each lampholder together is required in compliance with local National Electrical Code (NEC) standards.
- SUPERSAVER® & Special Application Limits: If running high-efficiency variants on F32T8 hardware, verify an open-circuit voltage minimum of 550V RMS. Do not deploy these configurations in low open-circuit voltage remote ballasts, rapid-start fixtures below 570V, dedicated air-handling units, low-power-factor housings, or emergency inverter systems unless explicitly certified for such loads.
Environmental Striation Controls
Note on Environmental Behavior: If operational tubes are exposed to direct fixture drafts or ambient environments dropping below 60°F (70°F for specific 25W setups), temporary lamp striation (a pulsing pattern moving down the glass) or localized dimming may occur. This is a normal physical property of mercury-vapor stabilization under cold temperatures and will not damage the lamp. Eliminating the drafts or restoring standard room temperatures will bring the lamp back to stable brightness.
Recommended Commercial Applications
- Modular Office Lighting: Populates 2x2 modular recessed parabolic ceiling troffers and architectural light boxes.
- Retail and Department Floors: Provides wide, non-glare ambient illumination over aisles, displays, and public walkways.
- Institutional Environments: Perfect for schools, hospital corridors, utility zones, and administrative complexes calling for reliable, low-maintenance bulk lighting packs.
