The existing fixture must be rewired to bypass the ballast entirely, eliminating the ongoing cost and hassle of ballast replacement and maintenance while delivering 3.3 times longer service life than metal halide and using significantly less energy for comparable light output. This lamp uses a standard E26 medium screw base, the smallest and most compact base/shape combination in the GE LED HID lineup.

GE's proprietary active cooling design enables this lamp's compact construction, with omnidirectional light distribution similar to traditional HID lamps — this allows the LED replacement to work effectively with existing fixture reflector optics designed around an HID lamp's light pattern. Dimming is supported only through external Variac control devices — standard phase-cut (Triac) dimmers are explicitly not compatible and should not be used with this lamp.
