Product Overview

GE 93117215 LED11BDT8/G4/850 — 4 ft T8 Type B Ballast-Bypass LED Tube — 11W, 1700 lm, 5000K
The GE LED11BDT8/G4/850 (order code 93117215) is a 4 ft T8 double-ended Type B LED tube with a G13 base, operating on 120-277V line voltage with the existing ballast removed from the circuit. It draws 11W and delivers 1700 lm initial at 5000K and 80 CRI, with a rated life of 50,000 hrs to L70. Type B tubes require the fixture to be rewired for line voltage before installation — confirm the wiring configuration, socket type, and lamp length against the fixture before ordering.

Product Overview
Type B tubes are direct-wire lamps: the fixture is rewired so that line voltage feeds the sockets directly and the fluorescent ballast is removed from the circuit. Because the ballast is gone, there is no ballast compatibility matrix to check, no ballast-driven efficiency loss, and no ballast to fail and replace later. This 4 ft lamp is double-ended, meaning line and neutral are delivered to opposite ends of the tube, and it will work with either shunted or non-shunted sockets — no socket replacement is required in most retrofits.
This order code is factory-set to 5000K at 1700 lm initial output and 11W input power. Rated life is 50,000 hrs to L70, the point at which the lamp still delivers 70 percent of its original output, and it carries a 5-year limited warranty.
GE Type B tubes include an internal safety switch that protects the installer during lamp handling, and an internal misapplication circuit that provides protection if the lamp is mistakenly installed in a fixture that still has a live ballast. An optional in-line fuse kit (order code 39017, BT8-1AFUSEKIT) is available separately to protect against future re-lamp misapplications.
Compatible Applications
- Fluorescent troffer and strip fixture retrofits where the ballast is being removed
- Warehouses, manufacturing floors, and distribution centers
- Offices, schools, and institutional corridors
- Retail sales floors and back-of-house areas
- Parking structures and covered walkways (damp-rated locations)
Before Ordering — Verify
- Confirm the fixture will be rewired for ballast bypass. Type B lamps are not plug-and-play and will not operate on an existing fluorescent ballast.
- Confirm double-ended wiring — line to one end, neutral to the other. This lamp works with shunted or non-shunted sockets, but the fixture must be wired double-ended.
- Confirm the fixture accepts a 4 ft T8 lamp with a G13 base (48 in MOL).
- Confirm supply voltage is within 120-277V.
- Color temperature — this order code is factory-set to 5000K. Sibling order codes in the same family: LED11BDT8/G4/830 (3000K, order code 93117212), LED11BDT8/G4/835 (3500K, order code 93117213), LED11BDT8/G4/840 (4000K, order code 93117214).
- Confirm carton quantity — this item is sold in cartons of 20, which is the manufacturer minimum order quantity.
- If the project depends on a utility rebate, verify current DLC® qualification for this specific order code at qpl.designlights.org before submitting the application.
- Confirm whether the in-line fuse kit (order code 39017) is wanted. It is sold separately and is not included with the lamp.
Safety and Handling Guidelines
- Disconnect power at the breaker before rewiring the fixture or installing lamps. Ballast-bypass rewiring places line voltage at the sockets.
- Rewiring should be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code and local requirements.
- Remove or disconnect and cap the existing ballast completely. Leaving a live ballast in circuit is a misapplication of a Type B lamp.
- Label the retrofitted fixture to indicate ballast-bypass wiring so future service personnel do not install a ballast-driven lamp.
- Handle by the end caps and avoid impact to the glass. Do not install damaged lamps.
- Operate within the -20°C to 45°C ambient temperature range and within damp-location limits. This lamp is not rated for wet locations or direct water exposure.
- LED lamps contain no mercury, but should be recycled or disposed of in accordance with local electronic waste requirements.
Compliance
- cULus classified.
- UL 1993 environmental requirements for LED lamps — Damp location rating.
- DLC® listed. Not all variations in this family are qualified; confirm the specific order code at qpl.designlights.org.
- Contains no mercury; not subject to fluorescent lamp mercury disposal or shipping restrictions.
- 5-year limited warranty (GE/Current Lighting Solutions).
