GE 93323109 LED11BDT8/G30/R17d/8SC/SGN — 30 in T8 Type B Ballast-Bypass Signage HO Tube, 11.5W, R17d Base, Selectable Color Temperature

The GE LED11BDT8/G30/R17d/8SC/SGN (order code 93323109) is a 30 in nominal T8 double-ended Type B LED tube with a R17d recessed double contact base, built as a high-output linear fluorescent replacement. It operates on 120-347V line voltage with the existing ballast removed from the circuit, draws 11.5W, and delivers 1450 – 1550 lm at 80 CRI depending on the selected color temperature. An integrated SpectraChoice™ switch sets color temperature to 3500K, 4000K, 5000K, or 6500K with no tools required; the lamp ships set to 6500K at 1500 lm. This is the signage (SGN) version, which adds an internal reflective strip opposite the LED board for more uniform output around the tube and rotatable end caps that let the tube be oriented correctly regardless of socket position — both intended for double-sided sign cabinets. Rated life is 50,000 hours L70, and the lamp is damp rated for a -30°C to 55°C operating range. This lamp is not dimmable and R17d is not interchangeable with G13 — confirm socket type, cabinet or fixture length, and ballast-bypass wiring before ordering.

Product Overview

Type B tubes are direct-wire lamps. The fixture or sign cabinet is rewired so that line voltage feeds the sockets directly and the fluorescent ballast is removed from the circuit. With no ballast in the system there is no ballast compatibility matrix to work through, no ballast-driven efficiency loss, and no ballast left to fail and require replacement later. This lamp is double-ended, with line and neutral delivered to opposite ends of the tube, and it works with either shunted or non-shunted sockets. A retrofit label identifying the lamp model and indicating the fixture has been rewired is supplied with the lamp and should be applied to the fixture.

The R17d recessed double contact base is what defines this family. R17d is the standard base for high-output linear fluorescent lamps and illuminated sign cabinets, and it is mechanically and electrically distinct from the G13 bi-pin base used on standard T8 tubes. An R17d lamp will not fit a G13 socket and a G13 lamp will not fit an R17d socket. Because this family spans eleven nominal lengths from 18 in through 8 ft, the length must be matched to the existing lamp rather than assumed from the fixture type.

Standard LED tubes place the LED board on one side of the tube, so output is directional. That is an advantage in a ceiling fixture pointing down, but it produces visibly uneven brightness in a double-sided sign cabinet, where the face opposite the LED board receives less light. The signage version addresses this with an internal reflective strip positioned opposite the LED board, which bounces light back and reduces the intensity difference across the tube, and with rotatable end caps that allow the tube to be aimed correctly no matter how the sockets are oriented inside the cabinet.

The SpectraChoice™ switch on the lamp body sets color temperature to 3500K, 4000K, 5000K, or 6500K with no tools required, which lets one stocked order code cover four color points and reduces the number of SKUs carried for a multi-space or multi-cabinet project. Output varies with the setting, which is why lumens are given per color temperature above. GE Type B tubes include an internal safety switch that protects the installer during handling and an internal misapplication circuit that provides protection if the lamp is installed in a fixture that still has a live ballast. An optional in-line fuse kit (order code 39017, BT8-1AFUSEKIT) is sold separately to protect against future re-lamp misapplications.

Compatible Applications

  • Double-sided illuminated sign cabinets using R17d sockets
  • Pylon signs, monument signs, and channel letter retrofits
  • Gas station canopy price signs and menu boards
  • Backlit graphic panels and light boxes
  • Directory and wayfinding signage
  • High-output linear fluorescent sign lamp replacement
  • Damp-rated interior and covered exterior locations
  • Facilities on 347V distribution, including Canadian commercial and industrial sites

Before Ordering — Verify

  • Confirm the sockets are R17d recessed double contact. This lamp will not fit G13 bi-pin sockets, and R17d and G13 are not interchangeable.
  • Confirm the fixture or cabinet will be rewired for ballast bypass. Type B lamps are not plug-and-play and will not operate on an existing fluorescent ballast.
  • Confirm double-ended wiring — line to one end, neutral to the other.
  • Confirm the length. This order code is 30 in nominal with an actual length of 27.91 in. Other lengths in this family run from 18 in through 8 ft — match the lamp being replaced rather than the fixture description.
  • Confirm supply voltage is within 120-347V.
  • Confirm whether the signage version is required. This SGN lamp has an internal reflective strip and rotatable end caps for double-sided cabinets. The standard R17d version at the same length is a different order code with different lumen values.
  • Confirm the required color temperature is one of the four selectable settings. The lamp ships set to 6500K and must be switched on site if a different setting is needed.
  • Confirm the application does not require dimming. This lamp is not dimmable.
  • Confirm carton quantity — this item is sold in cartons of 10, which is the manufacturer minimum order quantity.
  • DLC® qualification is not stated for this family on the manufacturer spec sheet. If a utility rebate is required, verify status at qpl.designlights.org before submitting the application.
  • Confirm whether the in-line fuse kit (order code 39017) is wanted. It is sold separately and is not included with the lamp.

Safety and Handling Guidelines

  • Disconnect power at the breaker before rewiring or installing lamps. Ballast-bypass rewiring places line voltage at the sockets.
  • Rewiring should be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code and local requirements, following the installation instructions supplied with the lamp.
  • Remove or disconnect and cap the existing ballast completely. Leaving a live ballast in circuit is a misapplication of a Type B lamp.
  • Apply the supplied retrofit label to the fixture so future service personnel know it has been rewired for ballast bypass and do not install a ballast-driven lamp.
  • Handle by the end caps and avoid impact to the glass. Do not install damaged lamps.
  • Rotate the end caps only to set orientation during installation. Do not force them beyond their range of travel.
  • Operate within the -30°C to 55°C ambient range and within damp-location limits. This lamp is not rated for wet locations or direct water exposure.
  • Ensure sign cabinet or fixture gaskets and seals are intact so the lamp is not exposed to standing water or driving rain.
  • Do not use with a dimmer. This lamp is non-dimmable and dimmer operation may cause flicker, premature failure, or damage.
  • LED lamps contain no mercury, but should be recycled or disposed of in accordance with local electronic waste requirements.

Compliance

  • Damp location rated per UL 1993 environmental requirements for LED lamps.
  • DLC® qualification is not stated for this family on the manufacturer spec sheet. Confirm at qpl.designlights.org before relying on it for rebate eligibility.
  • Contains no mercury; not subject to fluorescent lamp mercury disposal or shipping restrictions.
  • Patent pending (Current Lighting Solutions).
  • 5-year limited warranty (GE / Current Lighting Solutions).
