Product Overview

Infrared heat lamps work on a different principle than lighting lamps. The filament runs at a lower color temperature so that a much larger share of its output falls in the infrared rather than the visible band, and the internal reflector coating on the R40 envelope directs that energy forward in a controlled pattern. The result is radiant heat delivered to a surface or a person directly, without having to warm the air in between. That is why heat lamps are used for food holding, animal brooding, and spot warming in spaces where heating the whole volume would be impractical.

This is the 375W version, the higher-output option in the R40 heat lamp range, on a 120V AC supply. Rated life is 5,000 hours and the lamp is dimmable, which is the practical way to modulate heat output without cycling the lamp. Starting time is zero seconds, so full radiant output is immediate with no warm-up period. At 2850K and 100 CRI the visible light it does produce is a warm incandescent white with the full-spectrum color rendering characteristic of a filament source.

Note the base: this lamp uses an E26/53x39 medium skirted base, not a plain E26 medium base. The skirt is a wider ceramic or metal collar between the glass and the screw shell, and while the threads are standard E26, the skirt requires clearance at the socket. Confirm the fixture accommodates it before ordering. The lamp is mercury free and RoHS listed, ships one per SKU, 24 per case, and 432 per pallet.

Compatible Applications

  • Food service holding and warming stations, in fixtures rated for heat lamps
  • Animal brooding and livestock warming, in fixtures with an appropriate guard
  • Spot and radiant warming in workshops, garages, and utility spaces
  • Industrial process warming and drying where radiant infrared is called for
  • Bathroom and changing area heat fixtures designed for R40 heat lamps
  • Residential and specialty applications, per the manufacturer
  • Sockets accepting an E26/53x39 medium skirted base with adequate skirt clearance
  • Circuits where dimming control of heat output is wanted

Before Ordering – Verify

  • Confirm this is the heat lamp you need, not a general lighting R40. This is an infrared reflector lamp intended to deliver radiant heat. It is not a substitute for an R40 or BR40 flood lamp in a lighting fixture, and it will produce substantially more heat at the same wattage.
  • Confirm the socket accepts an E26/53x39 medium skirted base. The threads are standard E26, but the skirt is wider than a plain medium base and needs clearance at the socket.
  • Confirm the fixture is rated for a 375W heat lamp. Check the fixture’s maximum wattage marking and confirm it is intended for infrared lamps, since the thermal load is far higher than a general service lamp of the same wattage.
  • Confirm the supply is 120V AC.
  • Confirm fixture clearance against a 184.15 mm / 7.25 in. overall length.
  • Confirm the bulb diameter fits the fixture aperture. R40 denotes a nominal 5 in. / 127 mm diameter.
  • Confirm the finish. This is the clear version; heat lamps are also offered with red and other coatings, which change the visible appearance but not the wattage.
  • If dimming, confirm the control is rated for a resistive incandescent load at 375W.
  • This item ships 1 per SKU and 24 per case; pallet quantity is 432.

Safety and Handling Guidelines

  • A 375W infrared heat lamp runs extremely hot and presents a real burn and fire risk. Install only in a fixture and socket rated for heat lamp service.
  • Keep combustible materials well clear of the lamp face and never cover or enclose an operating heat lamp.
  • Disconnect power and allow the lamp to cool fully before handling or replacing it.
  • Use a guard where the lamp can be contacted by people or animals, or where breakage could drop glass into food or bedding.
  • Do not handle the glass with bare hands during installation; skin oils create hot spots.
  • Ensure the lamp is fully seated in the socket, and do not use excessive force when installing.
  • Do not use the lamp if the glass or reflector coating is cracked, scratched, or damaged.
  • Do not exceed the rated 120V supply voltage.
  • Verify the fixture is suitable for the location, particularly in damp food service or agricultural environments.
  • Installation should follow all applicable national and local electrical codes.

Compliance

  • RoHS certification listing
  • Mercury free, with 0.0 mg mercury content
  • Average rated life of 5,000 hours per the manufacturer’s published data
  • 100 CRI at 2850 K color temperature, light color designation 1028
