Product Overview

MasterClass is the top tier of the Philips TLED range, and the specification that defines it is life: 70,000 hours nominal, stated as B50L70 at the same figure, meaning 50% of a population still delivers 70% of initial output at that point. That is roughly twice the life of a mid-tier LED tube and the reason MasterClass gets specified where lamp replacement labor is expensive — high ceilings, occupied clinical space, anywhere a lift and a permit are involved. Philips backs it with a standard 7-year limited warranty.

This is an InstantFit lamp, which means it runs on the fluorescent ballast already in the fixture. Nothing is rewired, no ballast is removed, and the fixture needs no relabeling — a maintenance technician pulls the fluorescent tube and drops in the LED. The tradeoff is that ballast compatibility has to be confirmed, because the lamp draws between 130 and 400 mA depending on what is driving it and accepts an input frequency anywhere from 20 kHz to 120 kHz.

• Do not install this lamp in a fixture whose ballast has been removed or bypassed. That configuration requires a ballast-bypass lamp.
• If dimming is required, confirm the ballast and control combination. The lamp is dimmable, but on an InstantFit product the dimming is delivered through the ballast, so the ballast must be a dimming type and the pairing must be validated.
• Confirm the lampholder is G13 and the fixture accepts a 1200 mm / 47-1/4 in. lamp.
• Confirm the supply is within 120–277V or is 347V.
• Confirm the ambient stays within -20 °C to 45 °C and the case temperature at or below 50 °C.
• Confirm the color temperature. This lamp is 4000K.
• Confirm remaining ballast life. An InstantFit lamp is only as reliable as the ballast driving it, and at 70,000 hours the lamp will very likely outlast two ballasts.

Safety and Handling Guidelines

• Switch off the circuit before relamping.
• Allow the outgoing fluorescent lamp to cool before removal.
• Seat both bi-pin ends fully and rotate the lamp until it locks in the lampholder.
• Do not install in a fixture whose ballast has been removed or bypassed.
• Do not operate outside the -20 °C to 45 °C ambient rating, and ensure the fixture keeps case temperature at or below 50 °C.
• Recycle or dispose of removed fluorescent lamps according to local regulations, as they contain mercury. This LED replacement contains none.
• Although the polycarbonate body is shatter-resistant, handle the lamp with normal care and do not use it if the end caps or body are damaged.
• Relamping should follow all applicable national and local electrical codes.
