Product Overview

SubstiTUBE IPS LED T8 lamps are ballast-compatible tubes. They install into the existing fixture and run off the electronic ballast already in place, with no mercury, instant light and uniform light distribution. They are engineered for existing instant start and select programmed rapid start electronic T8 ballasts, which minimizes labor and recycling costs compared with a ballast-bypass conversion. The ballast stays in the circuit, so ballast compatibility is the key check before ordering; the lamp is not for magnetic ballasts.

Generation 8 uses a shatterproof frosted Nano Plastic body that does not break in the manner of glass LED or fluorescent lamps. The datasheet lists a 180 degree beam angle for this 4 ft 10W lamp with a 340 degree light emitting area. Because the lamp is not affected by switching cycles, occupancy or vacancy sensors can be used with the existing instant start ballast for added energy savings, and there is no warm-up time: the lamp is instant-on with stable lamp-to-lamp color.

Before Ordering — Verify

• Confirm the existing ballast is a compatible electronic instant start or select programmed rapid start T8 ballast with 120-277V or 347V input. Because of the number of ballast designs and topologies, test the lamp on existing ballasts before installing mass quantities.
• This lamp will not operate on magnetic ballasts. Do not use it with older dedicated voltage (120V only or 277V only) ballasts — their electronic components degrade over time and may become unsuitable for the lamp.
• Confirm lamp holder type. For instant start ballasts, use lamp holders with an internal shunt or wired in a shunt configuration. For programmed rapid start ballasts, use rapid-start (non-shunted) lamp holders.
• De-lamping: not allowed for ISH ballasts. For approved ISN and ISL ballasts, de-lamping is allowed for only one lamp so long as the ballast factor remains below 1.20 (for example, a 4-lamp ballast may be run with 3 lamps).
• Do not use with other LED or fluorescent lamps on the same ballast.
• Confirm the ballast is mounted within 20 feet of the lamp.
• This lamp is non-dimming. Do not use it with a dimming ballast expecting dimmed output.
• Confirm fixture length. This is a 4 ft lamp with an overall length of 47.725" ± 0.055" (1212.2mm ± 1.4mm).

Safety and Handling Guidelines

• Turn off power to the fixture before installing, inspecting, or maintaining lamps.
• Install and operate in compliance with the National Electrical Code, Underwriters Laboratories requirements, and all applicable local codes.
• Insert and align the tube fully in the lamp holders. Partial insertion causes poor or intermittent electrical contact, which can produce short lamp life and arcing, and arcing at the lamp holder can cause localized overheating.
• Read the installation manual supplied inside the packaging before beginning installation.
• Do not install on magnetic ballasts or on older dedicated single-voltage ballasts.
• Do not mix this lamp with other LED or fluorescent lamps on the same ballast.
• Handle by the end caps and do not install a lamp with visible damage.
• Operate only in dry or damp locations. The lamp must not come into direct contact with water.
• This lamp contains no mercury and no lead, and emits no UV. Recycle or dispose of it in accordance with local requirements.
