Product Overview

Sylvania 41733 LED9T8L24FG835BFG2 — LEDlescent™ 2 ft T8 Ballast-Free LED Tube, 9W, 1100 Lumens, 3500K, 120-277V
The Sylvania LED9T8L24FG835BFG2 (item number 41733) is a 2 ft LEDlescent™ T8 ballast-free LED tube with a G13 medium bi-pin base and a frosted glass body. It has an internal driver and operates directly on 120-277V line voltage with the existing fluorescent ballast bypassed and disconnected. The lamp draws 9W and produces 1100 initial lumens at 3500K and 82 CRI, for an efficacy of 122 lumens per watt, with a rated life of 50,000 hours to L70. It is double-ended and wired end to end, works with both shunted and non-shunted sockets so no socket change is needed, and is polarity neutral — it can be installed in either direction. A patented built-in safety circuit prevents current from flowing through the lamp when only one end is engaged in the socket. Because the fixture must be rewired for line voltage, confirm the wiring plan, socket condition, and fixture length before ordering.

Product Overview
LEDlescent T8 ballast-free lamps carry their driver inside the tube and run directly on 120-277V mains power. The fluorescent ballast is bypassed and disconnected, which removes it as an energy consumer and as a future maintenance item, and eliminates the ballast compatibility question entirely. Unlike ballast-compatible lamps, there is no approved-ballast list to check and no risk that an aging ballast shortens lamp life. The lamp replaces both T8 and T12 fluorescent lamps, since the ballast that drove the original lamp is no longer part of the circuit.
The safety engineering is the notable part of this family. A patented built-in safety circuit prevents current from flowing through the lamp when only one end is seated in a socket, which removes the shock hazard normally associated with handling a line-voltage tube during installation. There is no risk of electrical arcing between the lamp pins and the lamp holders. The lamp is double ended and wired end to end, which prevents a non-passive failure if a fluorescent lamp is later installed in the rewired fixture by mistake. It works with shunted and non-shunted sockets, so no socket replacement is needed, and it is polarity neutral, so it can be installed in either orientation.
Because the lamp is UL Classified as a luminaire conversion retrofit kit under UL 1598C, the UL rating of the existing fixture is not voided when the fixture is electrically modified. Retaining that rating depends on the installer following the installation instructions supplied with the lamps and affixing the luminaire warning sticker included in the packaging to the fixture. This is a required step, not an optional one.
This order code is factory-set to 3500K at 1100 initial lumens. Other color temperatures in the same 2 ft 9W family are LED9T8L24FG830BFG2 (3000K, item 41732), LED9T8L24FG841BFG2 (4100K, item 41734), LED9T8L24FG850BFG2 (5000K, item 41735). All four color temperatures in this length share the same wattage, lumen output, and efficacy.
Compatible Applications
- Cove lighting
- Display cases
- General illumination
- High bay fixtures
- Parking garages
- Tunnels
- T8 and T12 fluorescent fixture retrofits where the ballast is being removed
- Spaces using occupancy or vacancy sensors
- Food preparation and processing areas (NSF/ANSI Standard 2 listed)
- Fixtures using tube guards for glass containment
- Dry and damp locations; enclosed lens or diffuser luminaires
Before Ordering — Verify
- Confirm the fixture will be rewired for line voltage with the ballast bypassed. This is a ballast-free lamp and does not operate on a fluorescent ballast.
- Confirm the installer will affix the luminaire warning sticker supplied in the packaging. This is required for the fixture to retain its UL rating after modification under UL 1598C.
- Confirm socket condition. Lamp holders should be inspected and confirmed in good operating condition before installation. Shunted and non-shunted sockets are both acceptable; for non-shunted sockets, tie the socket leads together.
- Confirm supply voltage is within 120-277V.
- If dimming is required, note that these G2 lamps dim only on 120V using a trailing edge dimmer. They will not dim on 277V, and leading edge or 0-10V dimmers are not applicable. The Lutron NTELV-300 is the tested and approved dimmer.
- Confirm fixture length. This is a 2 ft lamp with an overall length of 23.72" ± 0.055" (602.6mm ± 1.4mm).
- Color temperature — this item is 3500K. Siblings in the same family: LED9T8L24FG830BFG2 (3000K, item 41732), LED9T8L24FG841BFG2 (4100K, item 41734), LED9T8L24FG850BFG2 (5000K, item 41735).
- If emergency battery backup is required, confirm compatibility with the factory. This item is not among the order codes the manufacturer lists as verified with the LEDVANCE 75740 emergency battery backup.
- If an emergency inverter is used, the lamp is listed as compatible with the Philips Bodine ELI-S-20 and IOTA IIS-25-I, IIS-35-I, IIS-50-1, IIS-125, IIS-375, and IIS-550 inverters. Any emergency ballast that operated with the fluorescent ballast must be disconnected from the lamps.
- Confirm the luminaire is not vapor tight or sealed. Enclosed lens or diffuser luminaires are permitted.
- Confirm ambient conditions stay within -4°F to 113°F (-20°C to 45°C) and that the lamp will not come into direct contact with water.
- Where a utility rebate is involved, confirm current DLC® status for this item at qpl.designlights.org. This family is classified DLC 5.1.
Safety and Handling Guidelines
- Turn off power at the breaker before installing, inspecting, or maintaining lamps. Ballast-bypass rewiring places line voltage at the sockets.
- Install and operate in compliance with the National Electrical Code, Underwriters Laboratories requirements, and all applicable local codes.
- Affix the luminaire warning sticker included in the packaging to the fixture during installation. This is required to conform to UL.
- Do not install LED lamps and fluorescent lamps in the same fixture.
- As a best practice, cap off the remaining ballast wires if the disconnected ballast is left in the fixture.
- Do not expose wiring to sheet metal edges or other sharp objects. Do not make or alter open holes in an enclosure housing wiring or electrical components during kit installation.
- Disconnect any emergency ballast that operated with the fluorescent ballast.
- Verify all lamp connections are correct before restoring power.
- This is a glass lamp. Handle by the end caps, avoid impact, and do not install a lamp with visible damage. Where breakage containment is a concern, use tube guards.
- Operate only in dry or damp locations. The lamp must not come into direct contact with water.
- Ensure the fixture allows the case to remain below its 158°F (70°C) maximum temperature.
- This lamp contains no mercury and no lead, and emits no UV. Recycle or dispose of it in accordance with local electronic waste requirements.
Compliance
- cULus listed to UL 1598C, UL 1993, and CSA 22.2. UL Classified as a luminaire conversion retrofit kit, so the existing fixture's UL rating is not voided when it is electrically modified, provided the supplied instructions are followed and the warning sticker is applied.
- DLC 5.1. Confirm current qualification at qpl.designlights.org.
- NSF listed to NSF/ANSI Standard 2 — Food Equipment.
- FCC Title 47 CFR Part 15 Subpart B Class B; ICES compliant.
- RoHS compliant.
- Lead free and mercury free; not subject to fluorescent lamp mercury disposal or shipping restrictions.
- No UV emission.
- 5-year limited lamp warranty based on 24/7 operation; NLB Trusted Warranty Program.
