That combination of high wattage in a very short envelope is what makes double-ended halogen the standard source for compact floodlights, cyc lights, striplights, and border lights, where the linear filament matches a trough or asymmetric reflector far better than a single-ended lamp would.
Color quality is the reason this lamp remains specified for camera work. It produces 3200K, the tungsten standard that studio cameras and film stocks are balanced against, at a color rendering index of 100 — the reference point of the CRI scale, which a continuous-spectrum incandescent source achieves by definition. There are no spectral gaps of the kind discharge and LED sources introduce, so skin tones, fabrics, and set finishes reproduce accurately without correction.

- Confirm this is a stage or studio fixture. This is a 100-hour, 3200K, CRI 100 professional lamp. It shares the R7s base and roughly the length of general-purpose double-ended halogen work and flood lamps, but those are different products with different color temperature and much longer rated life. Safety and Handling Guidelines
- Halogen lamps may only be operated in suitable luminaires designed with protective mechanisms such as shields or grids, so that no parts or shards can escape if the lamp bursts and no ultraviolet radiation can escape during operation.
- The luminaire should carry a warning sign indicating that the lamp gives off high levels of heat.
- Disconnect power and allow the lamp to cool completely before handling or replacement. A 650W quartz halogen lamp runs extremely hot and stays hot well after switch-off.
- Do not touch the quartz envelope with bare hands. Skin oils cause localized overheating of the quartz and lead to premature failure or bursting. If the envelope is touched, clean it with isopropyl alcohol before operating.
- Handle the lamp by its ceramic end caps, not the quartz tube.
- Seat both ends fully in their contacts. A partially seated double-ended lamp arcs at the contact and can overheat the socket.
- Do not exceed the rated 120V supply voltage.
- Ensure the fixture provides adequate ventilation and that the lamp is not operated against combustible materials.
- Do not operate a lamp with a scratched, cracked, or otherwise damaged envelope.
- Follow the fixture manufacturer's instructions for lamp orientation and any position restrictions the fixture imposes, even though the lamp itself is rated for any operating position.
