Product Overview

QUICKTRONIC PROFESSIONAL QTP5 is OSRAM’s longlife electronic control gear line for T5 fluorescent systems, split into dedicated versions for high efficiency (HE) and high output (HO) lamps rather than a single unit asked to cover both. This model is the two-lamp 54W HO version. Matching the gear to the lamp family is what allows the published 50,000-hour rated lifetime, quoted at 75 °C measured at the tc point with a maximum failure rate of 10%.

Several features target maintenance cost rather than headline efficiency. Preheat start within one second makes the ballast well suited to spaces switched by occupancy or motion sensors, where frequent cycling would punish an instant start system. Cut-Off technology and automatic safety shutdown to EoL T.2 remove power at end of lamp life or on failure, and the unit re-ignites automatically once the lamp is replaced, so no manual reset trip is required. Constant light output is held across the full 198 V to 264 V supply window.

The unit is rated for emergency lighting duty on DC at 0 Hz, is suitable for luminaires of protection class I and II, and carries an EEI of A2. A CW terminal accepts both manual and robotic wiring, which matters to luminaire manufacturers building at volume. Reliable ignition is specified from −20 °C to +50 °C ambient. Note that as with T5 lamps generally, the rated luminous flux figure is specified at 25 °C, while maximum luminous flux is actually reached between 34 °C and 38 °C.

Before Ordering – Verify

  • Confirm the supply voltage. This ballast is rated 198–264 V and is not a 120V North American unit. It will not operate on a standard 120V branch circuit.
  • Confirm the lamp count and wattage. This is the two-lamp 54W HO version. OSRAM builds separate references for 1x54, 2x49, 2x24-39, and 1x80, and separate HE-lamp versions entirely; they are not interchangeable.
  • Confirm the lamp is T5 HO, not T5 HE. QTP5 HO and HE units are dedicated types, and fitting the wrong family will not deliver rated performance.
  • Confirm the enclosure length. The two-lamp case is 423 mm long with 415 mm mounting hole spacing; the single-lamp QTP5 units are 360 mm with 350 mm spacing. A tray drilled for one will not accept the other.
  • Confirm the luminaire protection class is I or II.
  • Confirm the ambient stays within −20 °C to +50 °C.
  • If specifying for emergency lighting, confirm the DC supply arrangement and that 0 Hz operation is acceptable in the design.
  • If the OSRAM System+ Guarantee is wanted, confirm the lamps are eligible LUMILUX series or types and that the system will be registered with OSRAM.
  • Lumen figures are rated at 25 °C; verify the design against the actual operating temperature of the luminaire.

Safety and Handling Guidelines

  • Disconnect the supply before installing, wiring, or replacing the ballast.
  • Wire according to the connection diagram for the QTP5 2x configuration, observing the numbered terminal blocks for supply input and lamp output.
  • Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician in accordance with applicable national and local wiring regulations.
  • Do not operate the unit outside its −20 °C to +50 °C ambient range.
  • Mount so that the tc point stays within specification, since the rated lifetime is quoted at that measurement point.
  • If a lamp reaches end of life, the ballast shuts down automatically; replace the lamp rather than attempting to force operation.
  • Recycle or dispose of removed fluorescent lamps and control gear according to local regulations, as fluorescent lamps contain mercury.
