Product Overview

Philips builds its TLED range in two architectures. InstantFit lamps are Type A or Type C: they run on a ballast, either the existing fluorescent one already in the fixture or a dedicated LED driver. MainsFit lamps are Type B ballast-bypass, double-ended, with a proprietary safety circuit to reduce shock risk during installation. This lamp is the InstantFit Type A version, which is the fastest possible conversion — pull the fluorescent tube, install the LED, done. Nothing is rewired, no ballast is removed, and the fixture needs no relabeling.

The tradeoff with Type A is ballast compatibility, and that is where Philips has invested: the InstantFit range covers over 15,000 lamp and ballast combinations, which is why it can be specified across a mixed building without auditing every fixture. Output is 2000 lumens from 11.5 W, a rated 173 lumens per watt, at 3500K and 80 CRI. The 240° beam angle gives a wide, even distribution appropriate to troffers and wraps rather than a narrow throw.

Nominal lifetime is 50,000 hours to 70% lumen maintenance, with a 50,000-cycle switching rating that suits occupancy-controlled spaces. Starting time is half a second and the lamp reaches 60% output in the same half second, so there is no perceptible warm-up. The envelope is frosted glass, not plastic, and the lamp operates from -20 °C to 45 °C ambient on any supply from 120 V to 277 V. Note that the lamp is not dimmable despite the DIM string appearing in the order product name.

Compatible Applications

  • Commercial office lighting in recessed troffers, wraps, and strip fixtures
  • Fluorescent-to-LED conversions where fixtures cannot be taken out of service for rewiring
  • Occupied-space retrofits where relamping must happen during business hours
  • Leased premises where modifying fixture wiring is not permitted
  • Educational facilities, healthcare corridors, and institutional buildings
  • Retail sales floors and back-of-house areas
  • Existing 4 ft T8 fixtures with G13 lampholders on a compatible fluorescent ballast
  • Occupancy-sensor controlled spaces, given the 50,000-cycle switching rating
  • Projects pursuing DLC-based utility rebates, with the specific model confirmed qualified

Before Ordering – Verify

  • Confirm the existing ballast is compatible. This is a UL Type A lamp that operates on the fluorescent ballast already in the fixture. Check the specific ballast against Philips’ InstantFit compatibility list before committing to a large order — compatibility is by ballast model, not by ballast type alone.
  • Do not install this lamp in a fixture whose ballast has been removed or bypassed. That configuration requires a Type B MainsFit lamp.
  • Confirm the design does not require dimming. This lamp is not dimmable, notwithstanding the DIM string in the order product name.
  • Confirm the lampholder is G13 and the fixture accepts a 47-1/4 in. lamp.
  • Confirm the color temperature. This lamp is 3500K, color code 835. Mixing color temperatures within one space is visible.
  • Confirm the ambient stays within -20 °C to 45 °C and the case temperature at or below 104 °F.
  • Confirm remaining ballast life. A Type A lamp is only as reliable as the ballast driving it, and the ballast will typically fail before the lamp does.
  • If a rebate depends on DLC qualification, confirm the exact model on the DesignLights Consortium qualified products list before purchase.
  • This item is packed 1 lamp per pack, 25 packs per outer box.

Safety and Handling Guidelines

  • Switch off the circuit before relamping.
  • Allow the outgoing fluorescent lamp to cool before removal.
  • The envelope is glass, not plastic. Support the lamp along its length, avoid impact or twisting force on the end caps, and handle breakage accordingly.
  • Seat both bi-pin ends fully and rotate the lamp until it locks in the lampholder.
  • Do not install in a fixture whose ballast has been removed or bypassed.
  • Do not operate outside the -20 °C to 45 °C ambient rating.
  • Recycle or dispose of removed fluorescent lamps according to local regulations, as they contain mercury. This LED replacement contains none.
  • Relamping should follow all applicable national and local electrical codes.

Compliance

  • UL certificate; UL Type designation TLED_Type A, UL listed HF
  • DLC compliance per the manufacturer’s approbation marks; confirm the specific model at qpl.designlights.org
  • EU RoHS compliant
  • Classified by the manufacturer as an energy saving product
  • Nominal lifetime of 50,000 hours at 70% lumen maintenance
  • Color consistency within 6 SDCM
  • Contains no mercury
  • Specifications per the Philips product datasheet dated 2023, March 25; data subject to change
