Product Overview

The MSD 250/2 30H has a compact 5mm arc that produces a tight, blue-rich 8500K daylight beam. That beam cuts through stage fog and laser effects and keeps its contrast across the lamp's life. It is a staple of concert, theatre and live-event fixtures. When driven by an electronic entertainment ballast, the lamp runs on a low-frequency square wave that helps prevent arc instability. That keeps color consistent from fixture to fixture in a row of moving lights.

Compatible Applications

  • Moving-head automated spots
  • Theatrical color scanners
  • Followspots
  • Studio profile projectors
  • High-intensity architectural display fixtures

Before Ordering

  • This lamp works only on a dedicated MSD/MSR-rated 250W ballast with an external igniter that supplies a 2.5 kV to 4.5 kV starting pulse. It will not start or run on standard metal halide ballasts (CWA, pulse-start or probe-start).
  • Confirm that your fixture is designed for the MSD 250/2 30H (GY9.5 base, 250W, 108mm maximum length).
  • The lamp is for enclosed fixtures only. The luminaire must contain the lamp and block its ultraviolet radiation.
  • After a power interruption, let the lamp cool completely before restriking. Restriking while the lamp is still hot can prevent ignition or shorten electrode life.

Safety and Handling

  • Do not touch the quartz envelope with bare hands. Skin oils can bake into the quartz and cause hot spots and early failure. If you touch it, wipe the glass and pins with an alcohol wipe.
  • Disconnect power and let the lamp cool before handling or replacing it.
  • The lamp emits ultraviolet radiation, so use it only in a luminaire with proper containment.
  • The lamp contains mercury. Recycle used lamps through a certified lamp recycler or e-waste center and do not put them in regular trash.

Shipping Restrictions

Because of regional mercury regulations, this product cannot be sold or shipped to CA, CO, HI, ME, MN, OR, RI or VT.
