The Sylvania 40898 LED17T8/L48/FP/950TL/BF LEDlescent™ LED T8 with TruWave® Technology is a 17W, 4-foot UL Type B LED T8 lamp using TruWave Technology to mimic the natural light spectrum. It delivers 2200 lumens at 5000K with a CRI of 90. This lamp is non-dimmable and is not to be used with dimmers. Product Overview
The LEDlescent™ LED T8 with TruWave® Technology mimics the natural light spectrum with Sylvania TruWave Technology, controlling blue wavelengths for lower glare and reduced eye strain while properly saturating reds for accurate, vibrant color rendering without sacrificing efficacy. It uses a shatter-proof nano-plastic tube with a G13 medium bi-pin base and delivers a 90 CRI with strong TM-30-18 fidelity scores.
Installing this lamp does not void the UL rating of the existing fixture, even though it is electrically modified, because the lamp is UL Classified as a luminaire conversion retrofit kit under UL standard 1598C. The lamp uses a double-ended wiring platform with a patented built-in safety circuit that prevents current from flowing through the lamp when only one end is engaged in the socket, eliminating shock hazard, and there is no risk of electrical arcing between the lamp pins and lamp holders.

Before Ordering – Verify
- Confirm G13 base and 4-foot T8 lamp configuration.
- Confirm Type B operation method matches the fixture.
- Confirm the existing ballast will be removed – this lamp is not compatible with an in-place ballast or external LED driver.
- This lamp is non-dimmable and not rated for emergency lighting – confirm before ordering.
- Do not install LED and fluorescent lamps in the same fixture.
Safety and Handling Guidelines
- Turn power off before installation, inspection, or maintenance.
- Install and operate in compliance with NEC, UL requirements, and all applicable codes and regulations.
- Insert and align tubes properly in lamp holders – partial insertion can cause poor contact, arcing, and localized overheating.
- Do not expose wiring to sheet-metal edges or other sharp objects; do not alter enclosure openings during kit installation.
- Affix the included luminaire warning sticker to the fixture during installation to conform to UL requirements.
- Do not use LEDlescent T8 lamps with external LED drivers or ballasts.
