The Sylvania 64974 (MC70TC/U/G8.5/930 PB) (formerly numbered 64825) is a 70-watt METALARC® POWERBALL® ceramic pulse-start metal halide lamp delivering 6,300 initial lumens at 3000K with a 95 CRI rating and 90 lumens-per-watt efficacy. It carries a 15,000-hour average rated life and is built for enclosed-fixture use only. This lamp is stocked by ADL Supply for commercial and industrial replacement programs.

Product Overview

The 64974 is part of Sylvania's METALARC POWERBALL Ceramic family, combining pulse-start metal halide characteristics (good efficacy, long life) with the improved lamp-to-lamp color consistency and high CRI of a ceramic arc tube. Compared to quartz metal halide lamps of similar wattage, it holds CCT and color rendering more tightly over the 15,000-hour rated life. This item was renumbered from Sylvania product 64825 to 64974; both numbers refer to the same lamp.

METALARC POWERBALL Ceramic T4.5, T6, T7.5 and double-ended products must be operated in enclosed fixtures capable of containing particles as hot as 1200°C. Operating position is Universal, and the lamp requires a 4000V pulse-rated socket.

Before Ordering – Verify

• Confirm the base/socket type (G8.5) matches your fixture before ordering — ceramic metal halide bases are not interchangeable across wattage tiers.
• Fixture must be enclosed and rated to contain particles as hot as 1200°C — this lamp is not rated for open fixtures.
• Confirm the socket is 4000V pulse-rated; standard sockets are not sufficient for this ignition system.
• The circuit must include overcurrent protection (i.e., a thermally switched ballast).
• Minimum open circuit voltage for starting is 209 VRMS, measured with the ignitor in the circuit.
• This lamp was formerly sold under Sylvania product number 64825 — confirm you are ordering current stock under 64974 (MC70TC/U/G8.5/930 PB).

Safety and Handling Guidelines

• WARNING: This lamp can cause serious skin burn and eye inflammation from shortwave ultraviolet radiation if the outer envelope of the lamp is broken or punctured. Do not use where people will remain for more than a few minutes unless adequate shielding or other safety precautions are used.
