Product Overview

Sylvania 41273 LED9T8L48FGDIM850SUBG9 — SubstiTUBE® IPS Generation 9 4 ft T8 LED Tube, 9W, 1600 Lumens, 5000K, 0-10V Dimmable
The Sylvania LED9T8L48FGDIM850SUBG9 (item number 41273) is a 4 ft SubstiTUBE® IPS Generation 9 LED T8 lamp with a G13 medium bi-pin base and a frosted glass body. It is designed to operate on the fixture's existing instant start or select programmed rapid start electronic T8 ballast, drawing 9W and producing 1600 typical lumens at 5000K and 82 CRI, for a lamp efficacy of 178 lumens per watt. Rated life is 50,000 hours to L70 at 45°C ambient, extending to 70,000 hours at a maximum ambient of 25°C. This is a dimmable model and can be dimmed down to 10 percent when paired with a compatible 0-10V ballast. The lamp contains no mercury or lead and emits no UV. Because this is a ballast-compatible lamp rather than a ballast-bypass lamp, no rewiring is required — but the existing ballast must appear on the manufacturer ballast compatibility list. Confirm ballast model, lamp holder type, and fixture length before ordering.

System values are rated on a QHE2x32T8/UNV ISN ballast operating two lamps. Actual performance varies with the ballast installed.
Replacing a 4 ft FO32T8 fluorescent system drawing 55W with this lamp on a QHE 2X32 ISN ballast brings system power to 24W, an energy saving of approximately 56% based on 24-hour-a-day operation.
Product Overview
SubstiTUBE IPS lamps are ballast-compatible LED tubes. They install into the existing fixture and run off the electronic ballast already in place, with no rewiring and no socket changes, which keeps installed cost well below a ballast-bypass conversion and eliminates the fluorescent lamp recycling that a mercury-containing lamp would require. The tradeoff is that the ballast stays in the circuit as a component that consumes power and can eventually fail, and the lamp is only warranted on ballasts that appear on the manufacturer compatibility list.
Generation 9 uses a frosted glass body. Glass gives a clean diffused appearance and, unlike plastic lamps, is suitable for use with tube guards where containment is required. The lamp may be installed in enclosed lens or diffuser luminaires, but it is not approved for vapor tight or sealed luminaires, so gasketed wet-location fixtures are outside its rating. Beam angle is 220 degrees with a 340 degree light emitting angle, giving a distribution close to the fluorescent lamp being replaced rather than the narrower throw of a directional LED.
Because output is not affected by switching cycles, occupancy and vacancy sensors can be added to the existing instant start ballast without shortening lamp life — something that is not true of the fluorescent lamps being replaced. There is no warm-up period; the lamp reaches full output instantly with stable lamp-to-lamp color. This order code is factory-set to 5000K at 1600 typical lumens. Other color temperatures in the same 4 ft 9W family are LED9T8L48FGDIM830SUBG9 (3000K, item 41270), LED9T8L48FGDIM835SUBG9 (3500K, item 41271), LED9T8L48FGDIM841SUBG9 (4100K, item 41272).
Compatible Applications
- Fluorescent troffer and strip fixture retrofits keeping the existing electronic ballast
- Offices, schools, and institutional corridors
- Retail sales floors and back-of-house areas
- Food preparation and processing areas (NSF/ANSI Standard 2 listed)
- Fixtures using tube guards for glass containment
- Enclosed lens or diffuser luminaires
- Spaces using occupancy or vacancy sensors on existing instant start ballasts
- Dry and damp locations
Before Ordering — Verify
- Confirm the existing ballast appears on the Sylvania ballast compatibility list. Warranty coverage depends on the lamp and ballast combination being listed as compatible.
- Confirm the ballast is electronic instant start or select programmed rapid start. This lamp will not operate on magnetic ballasts.
- Confirm the ballast is not an older dedicated-voltage type (120V only or 277V only) and is less than ten years old.
- Confirm lamp holder type. Instant start ballasts require shunted lamp holders or holders wired in a shunted configuration; programmed rapid start ballasts require non-shunted rapid-start holders.
- Confirm de-lamping plans. De-lamping is not permitted on ISH ballasts. On approved ISN and ISL ballasts, only one lamp may be removed and only while ballast factor stays below 1.20 — for example, a 4-lamp ballast may be run with 3 lamps.
- Confirm the fixture will contain only these lamps. Mixing with other LED or fluorescent lamps on the same ballast is not permitted.
- Confirm the luminaire is not vapor tight or sealed. This lamp is approved for enclosed lens or diffuser luminaires only.
- Confirm fixture length. This is a 4 ft lamp with an overall length of 47.725" ± 0.055" (1212.2mm).
- Color temperature — this item is 5000K. Siblings in the same family: LED9T8L48FGDIM830SUBG9 (3000K, item 41270), LED9T8L48FGDIM835SUBG9 (3500K, item 41271), LED9T8L48FGDIM841SUBG9 (4100K, item 41272).
- If dimming is required, confirm the ballast is a compatible 0-10V ballast. The lamp alone does not provide dimming.
- Note the two life ratings. 70,000 hours applies only at a maximum ambient of 25°C; at 45°C the rating is 50,000 hours. Rebate or payback calculations should use the figure matching the actual ambient.
- Confirm ambient conditions stay within -4°F to 113°F (-20°C to 45°C) and that the lamp will not come into direct contact with water.
- Confirm the ballast is mounted within 20 feet of the lamp.
- Confirm case quantity — this item is supplied 25 per case.
- Where a utility rebate is involved, confirm current DLC® status for this item at qpl.designlights.org. This family is DLC listed under DLC 5.1.
- Because ballast designs and topologies vary, test this lamp on the existing ballasts before committing to a large quantity.
Safety and Handling Guidelines
- Turn off power to the fixture before installing, inspecting, or maintaining lamps.
- Install and operate in compliance with the National Electrical Code, Underwriters Laboratories requirements, and all applicable local codes.
- Insert and align the tube fully in the lamp holders. Partial insertion causes poor or intermittent contact, which can produce arcing at the lamp holder, localized overheating, and short lamp life.
- Read the installation manual supplied inside the packaging before beginning installation.
- Do not install on magnetic ballasts, dedicated single-voltage ballasts, or ballasts more than ten years old.
- Do not mix this lamp with other LED or fluorescent lamps on the same ballast.
- This is a glass lamp. Handle by the end caps, avoid impact, and do not install a lamp with visible damage. Where breakage containment is a concern, use tube guards.
- Operate only in dry or damp locations. The lamp must not come into direct contact with water and is not approved for vapor tight or sealed luminaires.
- Ensure the fixture allows the case to remain below its 158°F (70°C) maximum temperature.
- This lamp contains no mercury and no lead, and emits no UV. Recycle or dispose of it in accordance with local electronic waste requirements.
Compliance
- cULus listed to UL 1993 and CSA 22.2.
- DLC listed, DLC 5.1. Confirm current qualification at qpl.designlights.org.
- NSF listed to NSF/ANSI Standard 2 — Food Equipment.
- FCC Title 47 CFR Part 18, Non-Consumer; ICES compliant.
- RoHS compliant.
- Lead free and mercury free; not subject to fluorescent lamp mercury disposal or shipping restrictions.
- No UV emission.
- 5-year limited lamp warranty based on 24/7 operation; NLB Trusted Warranty Program.
