The Philips TUV 25W (#641618 / #64161840) is a low-pressure mercury vapor discharge lamp with a tubular glass envelope, made for germicidal irradiation. It is used for killing or inactivating bacteria, viruses and other primitive organisms in air, water and surface disinfection, including hospitals, bacteriological research and pharmaceutical environments, and food processing industries such as dairies, breweries and bakeries.
Philips states that a protective inside coating limits depreciation of the useful UV-C output, so disinfection stays effective over the useful life of the lamp. The lamp glass filters out the 185nm ozone-forming line, and a warning sign on the lamp indicates the UV-C radiation output.
