Product Overview
The GE 34530 ARC70/TD/UVC/730 is a 70-watt ceramic metal halide (CSS) lamp delivering 6,000 initial lumens at 3000K with a CRI of 75. It features an R7s recessed single contact base and a clear T6 bulb, making it suitable for projection systems and specialty SSTV applications where high efficacy and long life are required.
Ceramic metal halide technology provides excellent lumen maintenance and color stability over the 6,000-hour rated life, significantly reducing maintenance frequency compared to halogen alternatives. The lamp requires an ANSI M85 ballast and operates in a horizontal burn position (±15°). Warm-up time is approximately 2 minutes, with a 10-15 minute hot restart cooldown period.
Why Choose This Product
- 6,000-hour rated life – low maintenance: Long service life reduces relamping costs and downtime in projection and specialty lighting systems.
- 85 lumens per watt – high efficacy: Significantly more efficient than halogen, reducing energy consumption and heat output.
- 3000K warm white color temperature: Provides a warm, inviting light suitable for projection and display applications.
- CRI 75 – good color rendering: Adequate for projection systems and general illumination where accurate color discrimination is needed.
- R7s recessed single contact base: Standard for linear metal halide lamps, providing secure spring-loaded contact.
- ANSI M85 ballast compatibility: Industry-standard ballast specification ensures proper electrical matching and lamp performance.

Compatibility & Replacement
Fixture type: This GE CSS lamp is designed for projection systems and specialty luminaires that accept an R7s base and require a 70W ceramic metal halide source.
Base: R7s – recessed single contact base with spring-loaded ends. Confirm your fixture uses R7s lampholders and accepts a lamp with 4.68-inch MOL.
Ballast requirement – CRITICAL: This lamp requires an ANSI M85 ballast (electronic or magnetic) that provides the correct starting voltage and operating current for 70W ceramic metal halide lamps. Do not operate on AC mains directly or with incorrect ballast – lamp damage or failure will occur.
Before ordering, confirm:
- Ballast type – ANSI M85: Verify your fixture contains a ballast rated for ANSI M85 (70W ceramic metal halide).
- Base type – R7s: Confirm your fixture uses R7s recessed single contact lampholders.
- Burn position – horizontal ±15°: This lamp must be operated within 15° of horizontal. Verify your fixture orientation.
- Physical dimensions: Verify your fixture accepts a T6 bulb with 4.68-inch MOL and 0.75-inch diameter.
- Enclosure requirement: Use only in enclosed fixtures rated for metal halide lamps.

Safety & Handling Notes
- Ballast requirement – ANSI M85 only: This lamp requires a compatible ANSI M85 ballast (DC power supply). Incorrect ballast or AC mains operation will damage the lamp and may cause rupture.
- High pressure warning – face shield required: Metal halide lamps operate under very high internal pressure. Always wear a face shield and protective gloves during handling and installation.
- No bare hands: Never touch the quartz envelope with bare skin. Oils cause hot spots leading to premature failure or lamp burst. Use clean gloves or a lint-free cloth.
- Burn position – horizontal ±15° only: This lamp is rated for horizontal operation within 15° of level. Incorrect orientation can cause premature failure or lamp burst.
- Hot restart cooldown: After turning off, allow 10–15 minutes for the lamp to cool before restarting. Hot striking may fail or damage the lamp.
- Warm-up time: Allow approximately 2 minutes for the lamp to reach 90% of full light output. Do not cycle power during warm-up.
- Extreme heat and UV output: Use only in approved enclosed luminaires with appropriate UV filtering. Hard glass bulb provides some UV reduction but additional filtering may be required.
- Mercury disposal: This lamp contains mercury. Dispose in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Allow complete cool-down before handling: Allow lamp to cool completely before relamping (minimum 15 minutes).
- Follow your fixture manufacturer's service documentation for lamp replacement procedures.
