SYLVANIA METALARC STANDARD is the workhorse metal halide line: standard lamps offering high efficacy, long life, and white light output at low initial cost. The 65 CRI is characteristic of standard quartz metal halide: adequate for area and industrial lighting where seeing clearly matters more than color fidelity, but well below the 90 CRI of ceramic metal halide sources used in retail display. • Confirm the ANSI ballast designation required by your fixture before ordering. The current LEDVANCE datasheet does not publish an ANSI code for this lamp, and a 1000W metal halide lamp will not operate correctly on a mismatched ballast. • Confirm the burning position required by the installation. LEDVANCE states that most lamps in this family are designed for universal burning positions, which is not an unqualified universal rating for every item. Verify before specifying a base-up or horizontal application.

Safety and Handling Guidelines

• WARNING: this lamp can cause serious skin burn and eye inflammation from shortwave ultraviolet radiation if the outer envelope is broken or punctured. Do not use where people will remain for more than a few minutes unless adequate shielding or other safety precautions are used. Lamps that automatically extinguish when the outer envelope is punctured or broken are commercially available.
• Use only in enclosed fixtures rated for this lamp.
• Turn power off and allow the lamp to cool fully before inspection, installation, or removal.
• Do not use the lamp if the outer glass is scratched, cracked, or broken; turn power off, remove, and dispose of it.
• Metal halide arc tubes operate under high pressure and at high temperature. The risk of non-passive failure increases past rated life, so do not operate beyond it.
• Do not handle the glass with bare hands during installation; seat the lamp fully in the socket without excessive force.
• Keep combustible materials clear of the fixture.
• This lamp contains 160 mg of mercury. Dispose of according to local, state, or federal laws, and handle breakage with appropriate precautions.
• Installation should be performed by a qualified person in accordance with the National Electrical Code and local codes.
