The GE LED80ED23.5/740/HAZ is a Type B LED HID retrofit lamp UL-certified for installation in hazardous (classified) locations. At 80W and 12,000 lumens at 4000K neutral white, it directly replaces 150W high-pressure sodium or 250W metal halide HID lamps in petrochemical, food processing, grain handling, and heavy industrial environments. Operates on 120-277V line voltage with the ballast bypassed. 50,000-hour L70 rated life delivers approximately 2.5x the service life of the HID lamps it replaces.

This is the entry-level 80W variant in the GE LED ED23.5 hazardous-location family. At 12,000 lumens it's a substantial step up from the smaller ED17 lamps in the same line, sized for 150W HPS or 250W MH replacement in larger hazardous-zone fixtures. The 4000K neutral white color renders well for general industrial work areas, processing floors, and applications requiring balanced color discrimination. Includes 6kV surge protection. Note that this 120-277V variant uses an E26 medium base; for fixtures with EX39 mogul sockets, the high-voltage 277-480V sibling SKU 93148146 is mogul-base native and is also DLC qualified.

Important fixture notes for ED23.5: Crouse-Hinds Champ® VMV is approved for gas/vapor applications but is not approved for dust applications with the ED23.5 lamp form factor. Before Ordering – Verify

• Confirm fixture socket type matches the lamp base — this 120-277V variant ships with E26 medium base per the spec sheet (mogul adapter availability not specified; confirm with manufacturer if EX39 socket is in use)
• Confirm the hazardous classification of the installation zone matches the lamp/fixture combination's certified rating (note: Crouse-Hinds Champ VMV is not approved for dust applications with this lamp)
• Confirm the fixture's HID ballast has been physically bypassed or removed
• Confirm install ambient is between -20°C and 55°C
• Do not connect to phase-cut dimming circuits
• Per UL requirements, the fixture must be relabeled to indicate the new lamp and updated temperature code after retrofit
• If utility rebate eligibility is required, this E26-based SKU is not DLC-qualified; consider the 277-480V mogul-base sibling (93148146) which is DLC qualified

Safety and Handling

Intended for installation in classified hazardous locations. Installation must be performed only by a qualified licensed electrician familiar with NEC Articles 500-506 governing hazardous (classified) location wiring methods. The retrofit luminaire conversion must follow the manufacturer's installation guide, including required fixture relabeling indicating the new lamp and temperature code.
