GE 93148146 LED80ED23.5/740/277/480/HAZ - 80W LED HID Hazardous Location Lamp 4000K 12,000 lm EX39 277-480V DLC Qualified
The GE LED80ED23.5/740/277/480/HAZ is a Type B LED HID retrofit lamp UL-certified for installation in hazardous (classified) locations. At 80W and 12,000 lumens at 4000K neutral white, it directly replaces 150W high-pressure sodium or 250W metal halide HID lamps in petrochemical, food processing, grain handling, and heavy industrial environments. Operates on 277-480V high-voltage line power with the ballast bypassed and is DLC qualified for utility rebate eligibility. EX39 mogul base. 50,000-hour L70 rated life delivers approximately 2.5x the service life of the HID lamps it replaces.

Product Overview
This is the high-voltage, DLC-qualified variant of the GE 80W ED23.5 hazardous-location lamp. At 12,000 lumens delivered from 80W on 277-480V line power, it's sized for 150W HPS or 250W MH replacement in industrial-scale hazardous-zone fixtures. The EX39 mogul base matches the standard socket type used in high-wattage HID warehouse, parking lot, and high-bay fixtures. DLC qualification makes this SKU eligible for utility rebates in qualifying territories — an important differentiator vs. the 120-277V E26-based siblings in this family, which are not DLC-eligible. Includes 6kV surge protection.
Compatible UL-Certified Fixtures
This ED23.5 lamp is approved for use as a retrofit in the following UL-listed hazardous location fixtures (verify exact classification coverage per fixture family in the GE installation guide):
- For gas/vapor applications (Class I Div 2 ABCD): GE Lighting Filtr-Gard® H2 Series, Appleton Mercmaster™ II, Appleton Mercmaster™ III, Crouse-Hinds Champ® VMV, Thomas & Betts Hazlux® 3, Hubbell Killark® VM Series, Holophane Petrolux® P3M
- For combustible dust applications (Class II Div 1 EFG; Div 2 FG): GE Lighting Powr-Gard® H9 Series, Appleton Mercmaster™ II, Appleton Mercmaster™ III, Thomas & Betts Hazlux® 3, Hubbell Killark® VM Series, Holophane Petrolux® P3M
Important fixture notes for ED23.5: Crouse-Hinds Champ® VMV is approved for gas/vapor applications but is not approved for dust applications with the ED23.5 lamp form factor. GE Filtr-Gard H2 covers gas only; GE Powr-Gard H9 covers dust only. Refer to the GE installation guide for the complete approved-fixture matrix and required fixture relabeling instructions.
Typical Applications
- Petrochemical plants, refineries, drilling rigs, and oil & gas production facilities
- Food and beverage processing facilities
- Grain elevators, flour mills, and agricultural processing operations
- Chemical manufacturing and storage
- Coal handling and carbonaceous-dust environments
- Industrial sites running 277-480V power distribution where DLC rebate eligibility is required
- Large-scale HID retrofit projects where utility rebates offset specification cost
Before Ordering – Verify
- Voltage: This lamp operates on 277-480V only. It is not compatible with 120V or 120-277V circuits. For 120-277V circuits, see sibling SKU 93141934 (4000K).
- Confirm the existing fixture is on the approved UL-certified list above. Use in non-listed fixtures voids hazardous location certification.
- Confirm EX39 mogul socket is installed in the fixture
- Confirm the hazardous classification of the installation zone matches the lamp/fixture combination's certified rating (note: Crouse-Hinds Champ VMV is not approved for dust applications with this lamp)
- Confirm the fixture's HID ballast has been physically bypassed or removed
- Confirm install ambient is between -20°C and 55°C
- Do not connect to phase-cut dimming circuits
- Per UL requirements, the fixture must be relabeled to indicate the new lamp and updated temperature code after retrofit
- For utility rebate eligibility, verify current DLC QPL status at designlights.org/search before specifying
Safety and Handling
This is high-voltage industrial lighting equipment intended for installation in classified hazardous locations. Installation must be performed only by a qualified licensed electrician familiar with NEC Articles 500-506 governing hazardous (classified) location wiring methods. The retrofit luminaire conversion must follow the manufacturer's installation guide, including required fixture relabeling indicating the new lamp and temperature code. Always disconnect power at the breaker and confirm de-energized state before servicing fixtures. Allow lamp cool-down before handling.
Compliance
- Safety Certification: cULus
- Hazardous Rating: Class I Div 2 Groups A,B,C,D; Class II Div 1 Groups E,F,G; Class II Div 2 Groups F,G; T-Code T4
- Location Rating: Damp (UL 1993)
- NSF Rated: No
- DLC Qualified — rebate-eligible in qualifying utility territories
- Wattage equivalency claims per NEMA LS 20037-2024 (formerly NEMA LL 10-2020)
- Covered under U.S. Patents 10,788,163 and 10,508,776
